Brief Introduction to the 4 Qul
The 4 Qul are four short but powerful Surahs (chapters) from the Quran:
- Surah al-Kafirūn: It teaches us to stand firm in our belief in Allah and not compromise our faith.
- Surah al-Ikhlās: It explains the oneness of Allah, who has no partner, child, or equal.
- Surah al-Falaq: It seeks Allah’s protection from harm, evil, and jealousy.
- Surah al-Nās: It asks Allah for safety from the whispers of Satan and the harm of evil people.
These Surahs remind us of Allah’s greatness, our faith in Him, and our need to ask for His help. They protect our hearts, mind, and soul from negative things in life. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) often recited them for protection.
Muslims recite these Surahs because they are a shield from harm and evil. They remind us of Allah’s power and help us stay connected to Him. Many recite them before sleeping, when feeling scared, or as a daily habit to seek Allah’s blessings and protection.

Say, “O disbelievers,
I do not worship what you worship.
I do not worship what you worship.
Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship.
Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship.
For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.”
112. Surah al-Ikhlās سورة الإخلاص (The Purity)
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar.
So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].

Surah al-Falaq سورة الفلق (Dawn)
Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak
From the evil of that which He created
And from the evil of darkness when it settles
And from the evil of the blowers in knots
And from the evil of an envier when he envies.”
Surah al-Nās سورة الناس (Mankind)
Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
The Sovereign of mankind.
The God of mankind,

From among the jinn and mankind.”

The 4 Quls are powerful Surahs known for their protective qualities. Surah al-Kāfirūn and Surah al-Ikhlās safeguard against shirk (associating partners with Allah), while Surah Al-Falaq and Surah al-Nas offer protection from the harm of creation, envy, magic, and the whispers of Shaytan.
In a Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) mentioned that reciting Surah al-Ikhlās brings a reward equal to one-third of the Quran, and Surah Al-Kafirun is equivalent to one-quarter in reward.
Each of these Surahs begins with the word “Qul”, meaning “Say” in Arabic. They are called the 4 Quls because they were revealed with this command, instructing the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to convey Allah’s message to the people exactly as revealed.
